Episode 138: Kim Holloway [Belhaven Dance Alumni – Part Eleven]

What a gift to spend time with Kim Holloway for part eleven of our Belhaven Dance Alumni series! Kim is a choreographer, performer, teaching artist, and Pilates instructor based in Seattle, Washington. I love Kim’s heart for connection and community and her belief that movement has the power to bring healing and change.

In our conversation, Kim shares her artistic journey from her early influences to her experiences at Belhaven University and beyond. She discusses the challenges of navigating the professional dance world, the importance of understanding the business side of art, and her personal health struggles that have shaped her perspective on creativity and healing. About Kim:

Kim Holloway is a Seattle, WA based choreographer, performer, teaching artist, and Pilates instructor. Kim believes that movement is vital to all and has the power to bring healing and change. Her desire is to share beauty and authentic human experience while striving to create spaces where connection and community can thrive.

She grew up dancing from a young age, and always loved to move and express. She received her BFA in Dance from Belhaven University, graduating with honors. Her choreography has been commissioned by Belhaven University, Pacific Lutheran University, and Störling Conservatory of Dance among others. Her work has shown at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the Folly Theater in Kansas City, and in many theaters in Seattle. Kim also teaches dance to students of diverse ages and abilities, and was on the board of Dance Educators Association of Washington from 2019-2021. She has performed with many different artists including Michelle Miller/Catapult Dance, Alana O Rogers, and Störling Dance Theater (Kansas City). She currently performs with Kinesis Project Dance Theater (SEA/NYC) and enjoys collaborating with friends.

Kim finds it important to reset and inhale in beautiful places, and loves how nature opens creativity. She is on a constant quest to grow and heal and find truth. When not dancing, teaching, or working on artistic endeavors, she likes to swim, play games, drink coffee, and go on walks with friends.
