Episode 44: Dave & Tina Samples

I had so much fun getting to know David (Dave) and Tina Samples for episode 44! Dave and Tina bring an incredible combination of humor and depth, and I know you will be encouraged as you listen. Dave and Tina have two sons and live in Texas. They have worked together in ministry throughout their marriage.

Tina is an award-winning author, speaker, worship leader, and music therapist. She co-authored the award-winning book Wounded Women of the Bible: Finding Hope When Life Hurts, with fellow author and friend, Dena Dryer. As a singer, Tina has performed in the musical drama Texas as well as in The Promise, a musical drama of the life of Christ.

Dave is the lead pastor at Tolar Baptist Church in Tolar, Texas. He has worked in the ministry for over thirty years. In addition to ministry, Dave has worked in radio and theatre. Together, Dave and Tina co-authored the award-winning book Messed Up Men of the Bible: Seeing the Men in Your Life Through God’s Eyes.

Throughout our conversation we chat about how Dave and Tina met, what first got them into ministry, and what it is like working together in ministry. We also dive into the topic of suffering. With Tina experiencing a heart attack and subsequent heart transplant and Dave’s journey with cancer, they both have so much wisdom to share on what it means to suffer well. I am so inspired by their faith and perspective. They display what it looks like to love and serve regardless of circumstance or season of life.

Tina is an Award Winning Author, Speaker, Worship Leader, and Music Therapist. She lives in Texas with her husband David. Together, they have two sons, Jaren and Zach. Her book (along with co-author Dena Dyer) Wounded Women of the Bible: Finding Hope When Life Hurts, received the 2014 Golden Scroll Award for nonfiction book of the year. It was also listed in the top 10 books from Serious Writer as Book of the Decade. Her book (with co-author hubby Dave) Messed Up Men of the Bible: Seeing the Men in Your Life Through God’s Eyes, won the 2015 Golden Scroll Merit Award. This book was also listed as a finalist for the Gold Medallion ECPA Awards for the overall top five Bible studies in all Christian Publishing. Tina has performed in the musical drama Texas for two seasons. She was also cast in The Promise, a musical drama of the life of Christ.

Dave is the lead pastor at Tolar Baptist Church in Tolar, Texas. He has worked in the ministry for over thirty years.
