Episode 64: Tammy Tolås
It is such a joy to share this conversation with my friend Tammy Tolås with you today! Her vibrant spirit and bold faith are such an inspiration! Tammy currently serves at the University of the Nations College of Arts. She leads a dance ministry out of the YWAM Kona Campus, owns and operates her own business for dance and Pilates, and is producing the 20th Anniversary Project Dance Event in Kona, Hawaii, this summer. Tammy is wife to another dancer – Andreas Tolås – and mom to two children.
I love how Tammy describes her journey as a life of “wild obedience.” We dive into what that looks like and the difference between a good plan and obedience. I was so encouraged by her perspective on topics like what impact really means, why comparison has no place for us as artists, and being confident knowing we are loved by God, regardless of our “qualifications.”
Towards the end of the episode, Tammy shares about the Project Dance 20th Anniversary Event happening this summer! Project Dance was founded by Cheryl Cutlip, guest on episode 12. Tammy is helping to host the event and shares more about both the Project Dance event and the “Refuel” Leaders Retreat that will follow. If you are a dancer or leader in the dance ministry space, this is for you!

About Tammy:
Tammy, originally from Virginia, began performing with a non-profit youth team (King’s Kids) in 1989. In 2002, she attended a dance workshop where she auditioned and was accepted as a HipHop dancer into HeartBridge Inc. – a Performing and Visual Arts Company that was based in Virginia and since relocated to Kona, Hawai’i. In this company she quickly expanded her dance experience into the areas of ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary. HeartBridge also opened up the door to perform and teach in various places by touring on the West Coast, East Coast, and Hawaii USA; as well as in Europe and Asia.
She has staffed various Dance & Performing Arts programs in YWAM, along with attending a degree program in Performing Arts from University of the Nations that included training not only in Performing Arts but also in Biblical Studies, Worldview, Communication, Leadership, and Counseling.
Some other various companies, teaching, and performance opportunities include Island Breeze (HI, USA), Haugesund Theater (Norway), Atmosphere (NYC), Project Dance (NYC, San Francisco, London, Houston), Sodium Dance Co (CA, USA), Ad Deum II Dance Company (TX, USA). She received a Certificate of Excellence & Outstanding Student Award from Broadway Dance Center (NYC). She received her Comprehensive Pilates Certification through BASI Pilates headquarters in California.
She currently serves on University of the Nations College of Arts. Leads dance ministry out of the YWAM Kona Campus. Owns and operates her own business for dance and Pilates. Is producing Project Dance Anniversary Event in Hawaii. And is wife to another dancer – Andreas Tolås – and mom to two children. As she has experienced God faithfully showing up throughout her own journey in dance ministry for over 30 years, one of her great passions has become to see other dancers be equipped and released to dance in their unique calling from the Lord.
